Tasks & responsibilities
- Act as Lead Piping Engineer on projects and supervise a team of Piping Engineer(s) assigned to the project.
- Responsible for the execution of the piping engineering activities and ensure that deliverables meet the specified level of quality and completed as per planning.
- Provide assistance to the Project Team (and Fabrication Contractor) in obtaining Client and Third Party approvals on the project.
- (Progress) reporting to the Discipline Lead and the Project Team during participation in a project.
- Preparation of estimates for proposals and anticipate to scope changes during project execution.
- Knowledge to assess detailed material selection.
- Preparation of technical specifications for pipe, piping components, valves and special piping items, which form the basis for the piping related material requisitions.
- Assess vendor quotations, prepare technical bid evaluations and eliminate uncertainties in the bids, in close cooperation with the procurement department
- Attend pre-award meetings to clarify and ensure that all essential technical requirements of the subject requisition are fully understood and complied with.
- Vendor data review after purchase order placement.
- Whenever required, witness valve testing and carry out inspections on piping related items
- Initiate the use of new tools and preparation of cost effective work methods, standards and procedures
- Coaching of junior engineers.
Key requirements
- BSc (MTS) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent knowledge gained by experience.
- More than 10 years of experience, predominantly in the (offshore) oil and gas industry
- Experience with FEED, basic, detailed and construction design / engineering phases.
- Knowledge of relevant Codes and Standards, such as RToD, EN 13480, ASME Codes, API / ASTM Standards and EU Directives, especially PED
- Affinity to work on international and multidisciplinary projects in an off-shore environment.
- Prepared to share and gain knowledge and update procedures on all relevant discipline aspects.
- Computer knowledge of piping calculations, document processing, spreadsheets and databases.
- Supervisory capabilities and negotiation skills
- Cost and quality conscious
- Professional attitude, flexible, good natured and stress resistant
- Fluent in English and good expression in word and writing
- Willing to travel
