What exactly does your work as an IT project manager involve?
As a project manager I am involved in various activities, which makes my job both varied and interesting. I am responsible for the management and maintenance of computer software and business applications. I am also involved in projects concerning system implementation and run training courses for employees. The backbone of my job is that I continually study how processes run in the office and devise ways to improve and streamline the processes by means of information technology.
Why did you join Iv-Groep?
I came here for work experience and stayed on because I enjoyed the work. In the beginning I spent a lot of time programming and developing software. Later, the IT department was split in two: Iv-Software and the ICT department. I opted to work at the latter. Incidentally,
Iv-Software has undergone rapid development in recent years. This Iv-company is the maker of Octopus, a standard application for handling formal objections lodged with the government.
Is it important for you to know a lot about technology?
I studied technical business administration and I have a technical background, although not quite the same as that of the technologists who work here. The big advantage is that I do speak their language and am therefore able to understand the office workflows. I perform my tasks from a business perspective, but with a technical flavour.
What gives you job satisfaction?
My goal is to provide the best information technology possible to the internal organisation so that everyone works as efficiently as possible. This may sound very general, but it comes to the fore in the training I provide. One of my tasks is to familiarise new employees with our project management system. I strive to provide practical and clear guidance, so that they can handle their administrative duties efficiently.
Do you enjoy working at lv-Groep?
After 17 years I am still very happy here. My field is very interesting and lv-Groep is always receptive to new developments. One thing I like is that many decisions are made quickly. Changes are not held up due to a long decision making process and this is beneficial to our department.
