At the end of April 2008 it has been agreed with architect Dr. David Fisher that Iv-Consult will develop a prototype 'Rotating Tower' in cooperation with Bosch Rexroth from Boxtel.
The Rotating Tower is a building, designed by the Florentine architect David Fisher, of which complete floors can rotate independently from each other. The special phenomenon that is thus created, is that the form of the complete building changes continuously.
The building consists of a circular concrete core, to which on each level prefab modules will be attached. The several modules together form a rotating floor of which the outer perimeter is not circular. The core of the building comprises elevators, staircases and technical spaces.
The connection, the bearing and the power of the rotating floors to the central point is the main challenge for Iv-Consult. Besides that, the firm will also take care of the bearing constructions of the floors.
The floors will have to rotate without exceeding the human perception barrier for movements, or put in another way: one should not notice the movement.
Iv-Consult will also develop the transition of the stagnant core to the rotating floor. The challenges here are: risk of those elements getting stuck, supply of drinking water, removal of wastewater, energy and communication lines.
