Grupo Losan is a Spanish company that specialises in the production of chip board, veneer and veneer plated materials for the furniture industry. To meet the growing demand for veneer-plated materials in northern Europe, Grupo Losan decided to open a factory at the Bargermeer industry zone in Emmen, the Netherlands.

During preparations for this project, Grupo Losan contracted Iv-Consult to prepare and submit an application for an environmental licence. Iv-Consult developed, in association with Grupo Losan, a layout for the new factory and compiled a process description. Based on the layout and process description, Iv-Consult created a conceptual design for the building and installations. The conceptual design was used, together with the process description, as the basis for submitting the application for an environment permit.

Given the huge quantities of wood that will be stored in the building, it was necessary to define stringent fire safety requirements.
