Middle East Sugar Terminal

Middle East Sugar Terminal (MEST), a joint venture of Syrian-based T. Akhras Group and London- based ED&F Man Sugar Ltd., asked Iv-Consult to produce the preliminary design for a steel silo big enough to hold 45.000 tons of processed white sugar. The silo had to be built in the harbour of Tartous in Syria. The preliminary design included the concrete foundation.

After a successful preliminary design, an order was placed for the final and detailed designs of the silo and the overall design of the adjoining bagging plant, including all equipment and the logistics & process study. The equipment for transporting the sugar from the ship to the plant and the transport of the product to the top of the silo were Iv-Consult's major concerns.

The scope of work ultimately included the complete final design, preparation of tender documents, assistance with the selection of tenders and on-site construction supervision.
