Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava was commissioned in 1999 to design three bridges across the Hoofdvaart canal in Haarlemmermeer in the Netherlands. He designed three stunning white-coloured cable bridges, each with a main steel pylon shaped like a spindle, fulfilling aesthetic and constructional functions. As the cables resemble the strings of musical instruments, the bridges were named Harp, Zither and Lute. Queen Beatrix officially opened the three Calatrava bridges on 1 July 2004.
Iv-Consult was responsible for the workshop drawings of the three bridges and was contracted by Victor Buijck Steel Construction.
