The Prins Bernhard locks in Tiel are the gateways to the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal and the Waal River. Renovation was needed to prevent future malfunctions and waterway obstructions and to comply with the latest flood protection requirements.
The Prins Bernhard locks consist of two lock chambers, i.e. the part of the lock between upstream and downstream gates used to raise or lower passing vessels. One lock gate was renovated in 2008. The renovation work for the other lock gate is scheduled for 2009. The steel structure of the gate facing the river was renovated to comply with the Flood Defence Act. Two swivel gates were replaced by new gates.
Commissioned by HSM Steel Structures, Iv-Consult was responsible for the workshop drawings.
