Discovered in 1969, the Valhall oil field in Norwegian territorial waters started operations in 1982. Valhall is located near Denmark, near the boundary with UK territorial waters, at a depth of 70 metres below sea level, and was originally built with three facilities. Today there are five separate platforms (Quarter platform, Drilling platform, Wellhead platform, Production platform, Water injection platform).
Bridges interconnect the platforms.
Oil company BP asked Heerema Zwijndrecht to build a topside weighing 11,000 tons. Given the excellent relations between the two companies, Heerema asked Iv-Consult to provide the workshop drawings required for the project.
The envisaged platform consists of five decks. A total of 30,000 hours were needed to draw the topside. To complete this work on time, lv-Malaysia was asked to handle some of the planned production work.
